Oh My Goodness! It's Gigi's Custaroons!

You might have heard about Gigi's Custaroons from various websites, family or friends. Yes, it has been existing for a couple of years now, but exclusive to Gigi's circle of friends... not until several months back when she gave in to her fans' prodding to offer it to the public.

Gigi Gaerlan is the master baker of the heavenly-tasting Gigi's Custaroons. She mixed the words "custard" and "macaroons" to form a deliciously unique combination of smooth and creamy flan topped with a chewy, buttery crust -- that is, Custaroons.

H.E.R.E. Needs Sponsors for Children's Education

Helping Every Child for the Right Education or simply H.E.R.E. exists for one reason -- that is, to assist the needy children and help them realize their future by giving them the right education.

For four consecutive years, HERE has been assisting chosen students from Caloocan City in making their way through high school via financial assistance and academic support. This program was inspired and initiated by the late Emmanuel "Kuya Manny" Magdaluyo way back in April 2006. So far, HERE has helped seven students graduate from Caloocan High School.

For SY 2009-2010, HERE was able to grant a total of P43,942 to the scholars coming from kind-hearted people from around the world.

Nokia N8 Positives and Negatives

After a month of intimate relationship, I finally waved goodbye to the Nokia N8 as it goes back to the hands of WOMWorld in UK. Over the past month, we have seen the unboxing video of the phone, some tips on how to maximize the N8, and a cheaper price of the phone in the gray market. This post is more of a summary of my likes and dislikes about the phone.

Positives (+)
  • Design and form factor that comes handy, looks posh, feels solid, weighs just enough. When you use it in landscape mode, the flat sides are just perfect for the hands.
  • 16GB internal memory, thus not much need for a memory card, although option is there
  • T9 way of typing on portrait mode and QWERTY on landscape
  • Penta-band 3G with 10.2 Mbps HSDPA and 2 Mbps HSUPA support
  • 3.5-inches screen with AMOLED capacitive touchscreen that gives bright and crisp colors
  • Scratch-resistant anodized aluminum body and screen
  • USB on the go and 3.5mm jack for earphones
  • TV-out via HDMI with Dolby Digital Plus sound

Wee Nam Kee in Manila Now Open

Young entrepreneurs Linfred Yap and Wyser Co are behind the franchise of Manila's Wee Nam Kee, which originated from Singapore. Wee Nam Kee is known for its authentic Chicken Rice, as well as a wide set of other choices like chicken, veggies, soups, etc.

They open today, November 15 at the Ayala Triangle Gardens and will initially serve the public from 10:00AM to 9:00PM (might extend till 11:00 depending on number of people).

Thanks to Our Awesome Planet's Anton Diaz (via Spanky Enriquez) for inviting us to have the "First Taste" of Wee Nam Kee even before they open to the public. Here are some pictures taken.

Wee Nam Kee's very popular Chicken Rice (Php40.00) is in Manila. They use chicken's broth to give flavor to the dull, plain rice. "Kanin pa lang, ulam na!" is what I told OAP's Anton. In order to appreciate it, I suggest you eat a bit of the rice first without any chicken or whatsoever.

Nokia C6 Snobs LG Optimus One Promo

Nokia Philippines has an answer to LG's upcoming sale this November 13, 2010 (Saturday). Earlier this week, LG announced its 50% promo of an Android phone called Optimus One. However, Nokia Philippines released sort of an "in-yo-face" 60% promo better than LG's, well, in one way or another.

After the success of the Nokia C3's One Time Big Time promo last July, Nokia Philippines is back with another one! Offering you 60% off for the brand new Nokia C6, you only need to pay Php6,490 instead of Php15,100.

Chef's Bistro Launches Budget-Friendly Breakfast Buffet

The Tomas Morato area in Quezon City has a lot of hidden food finds, where one of them is Chef's Bistro located in Scout Gandia. November 7 saw the launching of their breakfast buffet at only Php118.00, which is offered only every Sunday, from 7am-10am.

My relatives and I tried the buffet, and I can say that it was worth the price overall. Initially offering some traditional dishes, they plan to serve simple, provincial dishes in the succeeding Sundays, so diners can have a unique breakfast experience.

Parking can be quite a challenge, since the facade of the restaurant is a little small. Chef's Bistro has two floors with both indoor and outdoor tables. It's a little bit sunny on a Sunday morning, so I suggest you call for a reservation to be seated inside the restaurant.

You can see few tables at the ground floor and two function rooms at the second, which can sit about 14 and 30 people, respectively.

Deal or No Deal: Sites that will help you save! (Updated)

It has been a month or so since I've discovered websites that offer great deals -- you'd realize why they're great, as I list them one by one below. These websites helped me save huge amounts of money and made me try establishments I have never tried before.

How do these websites differ from others? They feature different deals like buffet, spa/massage, hair services, accommodations, activities, and other cool stuff at extremely low prices. The catch though is that you need to buy them as soon as possible, before the deals expire.

Instant Deals
The following websites have no minimum number of purchases required before the deals become active.

1. Cash Cash Pinoy "We Got a Deal"

Highlights:
(a) Deals up to 90% discount; (b) Easy and simple to use; (c) Refer friends and get Php100 on their first purchase; (d) Great deals especially on Fridays; (e) Fast turnover of new deals, while previous active deals are placed on the side until they expire; (f) Chance to win Php10,000 by signing up; (g) New deals are sent via email; (h) Complete payment options from credit card, debit cards to bank deposits and Globe GCash; (i) Available in Facebook and Twitter (@CashCashPinoy).

Lowlights: (a) Only offers deals in Manila, but are open to add new cities once the demand is seen; (b) Giving vouchers as gifts to friends is still under construction.

Celebrating with El Buono Pizza and CCME

One week. That's how long since I have seen my old teammates. It was last Thursday, October 28 when we celebrated three occasions -- two birthdays and my despedida. I have transferred to a new team since then, and looking back, I want to share with you what we had at the celebration.

We ordered pizza, lasagna, buko pandan, and chicken lollipops from El Buono Pizza and CCME Homemade Foodstuff.

22-inches Pizza (2 flavors at Php1,900++)

El Buono Pizza claims to be Asia's biggest and finest pizza. They have branches in Makati, Paranaque and Mandaluyong, and offers various sizes

I Think I Encountered Ghost Today

It's the first time that we've actually went to a cemetery and spent the few hours of November 1st in there. My lolo died last July, so it will be a tradition to go and visit him every All Saints' Day.

His remains were placed inside a temple at the Heritage Memorial Park. Most of the boxes are still empty, although some were already reserved and bought for future use.
